Blood Opium has been released as an ebook on Smashwords!!!

After more than four years of work, Blood Opium has been released as an ebook on Smashwords!!!

Blood Opium is a paranormal, detective story set in San Francisco, two days before the 1906 infamous earthquake and subsequent fires that changed the face of the city forever. Investigator Edward Morgan has enjoyed a short yet successful career with the San Francisco Police Department’s Homicide Division utilizing special talents passed down from his English ancestors. The only other person aware that Morgan solves murders and crimes employing these gifts was his boss Lieutenant Henry Regnault; until a blood drinking, opium smuggler make plans to commandeer Morgan’s talents for his own greedy purposes.

What is more important than the underlying story of Investigator Edward Morgan is that this book originated as a vehicle to motivate Robert Serwatka in maintaining a courageous battle against cancer and complications from kidney failure. When other people may have given up, knowing that his or her days were far fewer in number than most of us have to enjoy, Bob attended a writing class and worked on Blood Opium, along with several other books, short stories and screen plays. He never talked of his illness or impending death and he only engaged in conversations that centered on positive action, future enterprises and the anticipated release of Blood Opium. Unfortunately, Bob passed away in December 2010, before the book was finished and at the encouragement of family and friends, Tom picked up the torch to complete the book for your reading pleasure and as a tribute to his courageous brother. Co-writing a paranormal detective book was not on Tom’s “bucket list,” but after his brother passed away, he knew that at least one of Bob’s dreams deserved to be fulfilled.

Proceeds from the eBook will be used to support the college education of Bob’s only niece, Lindsay.

About the Author - Robert Serwatka

Bob Serwatka was an actor at heart. Regarding jobs and careers he would say that it’s all acting; you “put on your make-up and go play that part” for the day, or just for a meeting, and then when it’s over, you take off the make-up because that’s not who you are anyway.

Bob was born in Syracuse, NY in 1953, grew up in Potsdam, NY and graduated from SUNY Potsdam. At SUNY he was a theatre major. Even as a youngster, Bob was quite the entertainer. His Grandmother Serwatka’s favorite was his imitation of Red Buttons, SRO in the kitchen.

Bob was somewhat of an engineer and could manage a television studio but he chose to get into the cable TV systems and installation business. In the early 80’s and after working a few years in advertising, Bob moved to Orlando, Florida and worked for several fiber optic companies, later opening his own company, Integrated Televideo, Inc.

After moving to Florida, Bob teamed up with a TV director to help area play writers take their work from paper to production. In Tom Hank’s HBO miniseries “From The Earth to The Moon” Bob earned a part as a technician (EE Com) in the NASA mission control room. His three-second but “award winning performance” can be seen in episode 6, which originally aired in April 1998.

Bob was extremely private about his health issues and many of his family and friends never knew that he had been struggling with bladder cancer since 1986, and was terminally ill from acute renal failure and complications from cancer. Just before Bob’s illness prevented him from working, he built fiber optic and security systems for Disney Engineering. Bob’s desire to complete Blood Opium motivated him to stay positive and write, despite his illness. Bob passed away before the book was finished
